Sulphur dossier in the Agricultura magazine

Sulphur is one of the elements regaining importance in agriculture, especially in viticulture. Afepasa, as specialists in sulphur since 1893, has collaborated with the writing of this dossier.

DOSIER DE AZUFRE EN LA REVISTA AGRICULTURA

The Agricultura magazine, in its issue 998 of September 2016, publishes in its fertilization dossier an article on the different types and uses of sulphur.

Francisco Escudero, technical agricultural engineer of the Technical Department of AFEPASA, has been co-author of this article together with Jesús Yuste,  agronomy PhD, researcher of ITACYL in Valladolid.

In a first introduction, the article provides a brief historical overview of the use of sulphur as a fungicide and pest control, as mentioned by Homer in a 2,800-year-old paper. He then explains the action mechanism of sulphur as a fungicide and mite repellent.

From here, the authors classify sulphur according to the different forms or types, based on its formulation, manufacture and application method. Thus, we can differentiate: sulphur for dusting or DP, where we can find micronised and sublimated sulphur; sulphur to be applied by foliar spraying, where we find sulphur in concentrated suspensions and wettable sulphur.

Yuste and Escudero dedicate a specific section to the use of elemental sulphur as a fertilizer, since it is a great corrector of alkaline and saline soils. And they also highlight the advantages of elemental sulphur over sulphates.
