Occupational health and safety: An essential priority for AFEPASA
The health and occupational safety of all the people who are part of the AFEPASA structure is one of the main commitments of the organization.
- The health and occupational safety of all the people who are part of the AFEPASA structure is one of the main commitments of the organization.
- This commitment is materialized in its certification approved since the beginning of this year under the ISO 45001: 2018 standard, relating to health and safety management systems at work, and previously through the OHSAS 18001: 2007 standard.
The design and development of the industrial activity carried out daily at AFEPASA are not only aimed at obtaining the highest possible degree of commercial acceptance and satisfaction from its customers. It is also focused, as it could not be otherwise, to guarantee at all times the maximum safety and health of all the people that make up the entity, given their extraordinary importance as fundamental elements for its growth, consolidation and development.
Since its creation, more than 125 years ago, AFEPASA has always been characterized by its extraordinary involvement with the welfare and safety of its workers, considering these aspects as one more strategic objective within its business philosophy.
As proof of this firm commitment of AFEPASA with its human capital, for years it has had the homologation of its labor management systems through the specific international certification in force in this field, initially based on the criteria established by the OHSAS 18001 standard: 2007 (Occupational Health and Safety Assessment Series) and, due to the disappearance of this certification on December 31, 2021, through the ISO 45001: 2018 standard since the beginning of this year.
The essence of these occupational safety management systems is based on the exhaustive analysis of the different jobs that make up the organization's structure, in order to identify those occupational risks that may be associated with each professional activity.
In the same way, a continuous monitoring of different indicators is carried out aimed at measuring the levels of safety and health at work, such as the number of accidents at work or the number of Preventive Safety Observations carried out, to name a few examples, with in order to detect possible lines of improvement and establish, as quickly as possible, the corrective measures to reduce the existence of such risks.
As stated by Marc Melero, Head of Quality, Environment and Safety at AFEPASA, “although this certification is voluntary, it is a fairly demanding standard, which helps you to significantly improve work processes in terms of risk prevention labor, contributing to achieve a much more powerful management system in this sense, and that fully fits with our commitment when it comes to guaranteeing the maximum health and safety in their daily work of all the people who are part of this company ”.
